|Miguel was born and raised in Puerto Rico. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras in 2009. |
For his graduate studies, he moved to the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he obtained his Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2015 under the supervision of Prof. Song Jin. At UW-Madison, he worked on investigating the synthesis and intrinsic properties of pyrite and related ternary compounds for applications in photoelectrochemical and (photo)catalytic cells.
As a postdoctoral scholar at Caltech under Prof. Nate Lewis, his research currently focuses on developing chemical surface functionalization strategies to control the band-edge position of silicon photocathodes and optimize their energetic alignment with catalyst materials.
