Reduced Oxygen Species Stablized by Macrobicyclic Anion-receptor and Transition Metal Metaphosphate Architectures

Hexacarboxamide cryptand architecture has enabled stabilization of peroxide dianion (O22-) in an encapsulated form that allows the fundamental reaction chemistry of peroxide to be explored in aprotic organic media for the first time.

This discovery has led to exploration the role of CO2 in Li-Air battery, a technology that relies on electron transfer to dioxygen during battery discharge.

In the first part of the talk, we seek to define the chemical identity of the oxidant(s) that involves in solvent decomposition during Li-Air cycling.

In the second part of talk, we will describe how oxidatively resistant metaphosphates can be used to support highly reactive metal-oxo and metal-peroxo complexes.

These complexes serve as molecular models for the active sites of heterogenous oxidation catalysts.
